Canada Shorts is a Canadian short film festival dedicated to championing independent filmmakers and recognizing quality short filmmaking regardless of budget or production scale.
The festival accepts both Canadian and international short films and provides filmmakers with multiple opportunities for recognition through its awards program. Each season, Canada Shorts typically recognizes more than 120 films across competitive categories and award levels.
The festival presents awards for Best Short / Grand Prize, Best Canadian Short, Best International Short, Best Director, Best Writer, Best Cinematography, Best Music Score, as well as genre-specific awards including Comedy, Documentary, Drama, Animation, Experimental, Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Thriller/Horror, Action/Adventure, and Crime/Suspense.
In addition to category winners, selected films may receive Finalist Awards, Awards of Excellence, Awards of Distinction, Awards of Commendation, Awards of Merit, or Honorable Mentions.
Best-of winners and genre winners are screened during the festival.
To qualify for the Canadian Short category, a film must either have been shot in Canada or have a Canadian director or screenwriter.
Canada Shorts is also an IMDb-qualifying festival.
Canada Shorts publishes its annual results and awards placements, with results available for seasons dating back to 2015.
